We have found Oklahoma to be a beautiful place. Most impressions of this place, that people have given us, have been completely inaccurate. It makes me wonder what side of life they live on.

Sunset from our hotel. It is flat enough here that you
can see the gentle crown of the earth, but when driving
there are many hills and rolling terrain.

This is a photo of the Chicago Lake Front. Well you
could fool me. This a huge recreational and flood
control lake in north Oklahoma City. There are golf
courses, two huge marinas (about 800 slips) miles and
miles of trails, restaurants, and a beautiful lake shore
drive that surrounds the lake. There has been a
long drought here. Only two inches of rain this year.
This lake is like Palisades Reservour a few years ago.
It is down about 30 feet and all of the slips in the
marinas are about twenty feet out of the water,
leaving hundreds of boats high and dry. It is quite
a mess.

Well, tomorrow we are going to go look again for housing. The two places below are possibilies.
 |
This is an apartment that we hope to be able to see
in the morning. It is the newest we have been able to
find. It is about 2 blocks from Walmart. Hello. This is
Sister Nielson's best hope.

This is an older small house that I am most interested
in. It has a garage and once the carpet is cleaned it
will be ok. It has 3 bedrooms. Both of the these places
are much better than the one that the mission office found
for us. If you have not heard, we contracted last
Wednesday for an apartment that the mission office found
for us. The contract was signed for us to move in on
Tuesday. The landlord needed the time to clean, replace
carpet and flooring, and to paint. I questioned her ability
to get the work done in that time, but the landlord and the
mission staff said that was doable. Well, I called her
(the landlord) the next day to see about internet service.
She was very emotional and said she could not commit
to a date because her father had been hospitalized in
serious condition. I reassured her that we could wait
longer and asked her not to worry about us in these
circumstances. That is what prompted us to start looking
again. We are spending about $500 a week on hotels.
Legally we have no obligation to this contract because
they cannot meet our move in date. However we still
feel poorly about her circumstances. Time will tell.
More to Come...
